Dare To Be A Gentleman!

I was on my way home after a pleasant afternoon of visiting a few family and friends.

The bus was literally vibrating with youth and energy. It was rush hour and several students, mainly teenagers, were on their way home from school.

On boarding the Q5 on Merrick Road, a young man stood up offering his seat to me. Looking him straight in the eyes I smiled and thanked him as Somehow I wanted to convey how pleased I was.

 Meanwhile I on the inside I was doing cartwheels, shouting and screaming in celebration: What a gentleman.

Before I could fully define the range of emotions that I experienced I had arrived at my destination.

On disembarking, the young man in front of me held the bus door ajar to ensure that I would dismount safely. Of course I met his eyes four square and expressed my gratitude. This time I was on the roof of the bus dancing and prancing!

For some reason I was very much impressed on how effortless their manners appeared to be. I was truly touched and humbled.

Join me in thanking your parents and guardians who have remained faithful to the mandate to ‘Train up a child in the way he should grow and when he is old he will not depart from it.’

Do not be discouraged by the disparaging remarks that some adults often make about young people and young men in particular.

Chivalry is not lost. Our young boys are not ‘good-for-nothings’!There are still gentlemen!

Be patient with yourself and trust God’s grace for your maturing and development. ‘For He who has begun a good work in you is able to complete it!’ Encourage yourself in the Lord.

I honour all teenage boys and young men!
